Springtime is officially here, which means many of us will be hitting the road towards our favorite spring break destinations. That, of course, means leaving our homes vulnerable while we're away and potentially facing unforeseen circumstances wherever we go, particularly in hotel rooms.
While you're gone, it's a good idea to leave theBulldog Bar engaged on one of your doors. Whether it's the front door that's easy for burglars to see, or a back door that's more secluded from your neighbors' view, it's up to you. You should also run down your vacation security checklist with your entire family before you leave:
- Make sure all doors and windows are locked.
- Give your neighbors a heads up that you'll be gone.
- Set timers for a few lights to go on and off each day, especially outdoor lights around entrances.
- Arrange for someone to pick up your mail and newspaper, or stop those services for the duration of your trip.
You can't always tell when booking a room online what a hotel or motel's security measures are like. At minimum, you want a solid wood or metal door with a deadbolt. Most hotels will also have peepholes so you know it's really room service on the other side of the door as well as chain locks or limiter bars that you can engage while you are in the room.
If you can, choose a hotel with interior hallways as opposed to those with doors accessible from the outside. It's a good idea to avoid rooms with sliding doors on the ground floor or balconies that can be climbed easily.
Keep in mind every guest at a hotel is a stranger, which makes it hard to discern who is safe and who has criminal intentions. Even at the resort's pool or gym be sure to accompany your children, as these are prime targets for predators (it is a family vacation after all so you might as well spend extra time together)!
At theBulldog Bar we provide affordable, easy-to-install door protection that can keep a burglar from kicking in your door and invading your home. Visit theBulldogBar.com to learn more about keeping trespassers out of your home TODAY.
Here's to safe and happy family vacations all season long!
