For Crime-ing Out Loud! 5 Statistics You Should Know About Home Burglary

As a homeowner...did you know?

There are approximately 2,000,000 home burglaries each year in the United States.

This may seem like a large number, which it is, but the numbers have actually been steadily decreasing in recent years.

Here are 4 other important home burglary statistics to know:

62.4% of all home burglaries take place between the hours of 6am-6pm, while most people are away at work.

85% of home break-ins are performed by non-professionals (people who are often more dangerous and desperate).

Homes in the suburbs are 1.5 times more likely to be burglarized than homes located in urban areas.

34% of burglars are known for entering through the front door.

This last statistic (34% through the front door) is the main reason our squad created The Bulldog Bar – to keep those unlawful invaders from entering your residence.

If you haven't seen our newest product yet, here's a brief summary:

We don’t set up security cameras or alarms which may (or may not) scare off crooks.

We actually created a product that prevents burglars from breaking down your door and having full access to your valuables, and God forbid, family members.

Basically, The Bulldog Bar 's newest home security product keeps residential break-ins from taking place. Period!

Thieves That Go 'Bump' in the Night: 5 More Ways to Secure Your Home from Burglars

Yesterday our Bulldog Bar squad presented you with 5 simple ways you can protect your loved ones as well as your territory from thieves that go 'bump' in the night...and today, we have an additional five tips for you to implement as well:

1) Check in with family as you come and go. When you get home, call your family to say that you’re pulling into the driveway and are almost at the door. Require your kids to check in with you when they arrive or leave.

2) Have a family discussion to plan what you’ll do in case of a break-in or home invasion. Whoever can escape, should. Although the first instinct of many men may be to stay and defend their family, it’s better to call for immediate reinforcements, or the police, than to get hurt.

3) Get a very “yappy” dog. A large dog that is not extremely aggressive or does not pack a loud bark does not always scare off burglars. “Yappy” dogs are much more effective at this – because burglars are afraid of neighbors getting a tip of an intrusion.

4) Join or create a neighborhood or community watch program. Keep in communication with trusted neighbors about your coming and going so they can keep an eye out for anything or anyone suspicious around your house.

5) Buy The Bulldog Bar to keep your house and family safe and secure– keeping burglars from being able to get in through your doors (you can learn more about The Bulldog Bar and its features at theBulldogBar.com).

Again, The Bulldog Bar squad is constantly working hard to help you prevent the pain of property damage & loss when it comes to your residence and your loved ones.

That's why we make amazing, high-quality home security products to keep your home & family safe and secure.

Whether you use The Bulldog Door Security Bar for sliding or hinged-door applications, you can rest assured that our products are powerfully designed to protect you...while also enhancing to the aesthetic value of your interior decor (check out our multiple designs & colors on our official web site).

Peek-a-Boo! A Sneak Peek at 5 Simple Ways to Secure Your Home from Burglars

Many of us may be highly intelligent at what we do professionally and/or extremely knowledgeable when it comes to parenting or even "street smarts," but crafty burglars unfortunately seem to have hoodwinked many homeowners and renters over the years.

With that in mind, The Bulldog Bar squad wants to turn the tables a bit on burglars, by revealing a few of their tactics and offering some easy-to-implement tips to help you avoid becoming a victim of home burglary.

1. Make it a nightly routine to check your doors and windows, making sure they are securely locked. You can even involve your children in this regular routine of yours. This will help your young ones understand that they should never, under any circumstances, leave windows or doors unlocked overnight.

2. Don’t open your door-- and don’t let your kids open the door-- to uninvited strangers. Set an example for your entire family by refusing to greet guests who ring your doorbell or knock on your door without giving advanced notice.

3. Use your automatic garage opener to close the garage door when you get home, before exiting your vehicle. This will help keep any nearby prowlers from ambushing you in this part of your residence, in attempts to gain entry into the rest of your humble abode.

4. Stick around when people are working in your home (contractors, cable installers, painters, lawn care personnel, etc). Additionally, take note what they’re doing every few minutes they are occupying your property. And once they leave, check to ensure that nothing is missing and that no one has left a window or door unlocked as a way to break in at a later time.

5. Store your spare key (if it's absolutely necessary to have one) in a creative or non-conventional location. Doormats, flowerpots and fake rocks are the first places burglars look for your spare key. Instead, give it to a trusted neighbor or friend who lives nearby. And don't forget to train your children (especially teens) to keep your special hiding spots, alarm codes and other family security information private from their friends.

The Bulldog Bar squad is constantly working hard to help you prevent the pain of property damage & loss when it comes to your residence and your loved ones.

As an added bonus... simple operation and installation of The Bulldog Bar make this affordable device a “must have” for everyone.

"Faux" Real? The Bulldog Bar 's 5 Home Burglary Faux Pas to Avoid

Do you or your family believe and practice any home burglary ‘clichés’ (aka common practices which we believe are fool-proof)?

We understand… It’s easy to do, right?! Well our team at The Bulldog Bar wants to help you and your family to avoid implementing any home burglary clichés, to ensure your residence is safe from outside invaders.

Home burglary clichés often enable burglars to fulfill their operations much quicker, and with better results… so we have created a list to help you understand and avoid practicing those many common residential safety ‘faux pas.’

1. Your spare key is safely hidden in a fake rock or under a doormat.

No it’s not! Many thieves know about “fake rocks” and doormats as a common hiding place for spare door keys. These two alternatives for allowing family and friends easy access to your home can actually lead to easy access for a burglar as well. If a crook breaks into your home, don’t let it be a result of finding your spare key hidden in an obvious place. Try to devise creative hiding places, or better yet, give a spare key to a trusted neighbor, family member or friend.

2. Your valuables are secure when locked in a safe.

Not true! Locking valuables away in a safe is a good idea. It takes time for a burglar to break a lock or carry a heavy safe out the front door for a swift getaway, but it can be done with a few minutes. It is a better idea to securely mount your safe to the floor so it cannot be carried out the door easily. If a burglar only has a few minutes in your home, he or she may not take the time to break the safe loose from the floor to carry it out of the house. The odds are in your favor if you securely mount your safe to the floor.

3. Your sock drawers and closets are great places to hide valuables.

The sock drawer, underwear drawer and closet are definitely NOT good places to securely hide valuables. That’s because these three locations are some of the most common places sought out by burglars – especially in the master bedroom. Every renter or homeowner wants easy access to certain items in case of an emergency or home intrusion – like handguns or the $20 cash needed for tomorrow’s gas and coffee run, but the bulk of your home valuables should not be “hidden” in these common areas. Put the bulk of your home and personal valuables in a safe or two (which is securely fastened to the floor), hidden in obscure areas of your house. An interesting statistic for you to creatively consider is this: Most burglars don’t spend any time (at all) in children’s rooms.

4. The prickly bushes in front of your windows will keep the burglars out.

This landscaping idea is just not true. Burglars actually hide behind bushes in front of windows to avoid being seen by people and cars passing by. Shrubbery will not keep a burglar from entering your home. You do, however, want to make sure that your “prickly” bushes are trimmed to a size small enough to keep burglars from hiding behind them, should they attempt to peek or break into your window.

5. Your pet dog is mean enough and loud enough to keep burglars off your property.

This is more than likely not true. It is possible that your dog(s) will scare off burglars, but more than likely your dog(s) will not be successful at this. Canines are usually not aggressive enough or loud enough to keep burglars from attempting a 5-10 minute house break-in. If your “guard dog” is your main strategy for keeping burglars out, you may want to reconsider your security system.
That’s where our home security products come into play… At The Bulldog Bar we provide an alternative “pet” that will keep burglars from entering your doors. We call it The Bulldog Bar Home Security Device .

Our state-of-the-art product is created with “chic style,” a simple installation method and best of all… it works to keep burglars out of your home!

Statistics show that 34% of burglars enter through the front door - which is why we create door security devices.

Our Bulldog Bar Home Security Device is designed specifically to keep burglars from being able to enter your home.

Private Eye for a Burglar Guy: 10 Tips on How to Respond after a Home Burglary

According to the findings of the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association, of all home burglaries reported in the U.S. during 2012, non-professional burglars performed 85% of them.

Non-professional burglars are known for being highly dangerous and aggressive, especially when in your home.
Our Bulldog Bar Team has created a list of 10 tips for you if, God Forbid, your home is ever broken into.

If you come home to find an unexplained open/broken window or door:

1) Do not enter your home - the perpetrator may still be inside.

2) Use your cell phone or a neighbor's phone to call the police.

3) Do not touch anything or clean up until the police have inspected for evidence.

4) Note the descriptions of any suspicious persons to the police.

5) Write down the license plate numbers of any suspicious vehicles and pass it along to the police.

6) Keep a detailed inventory of your valuable possessions... including a description of the items, date of purchase, original value, and serial numbers. Keep a copy of these details in a safe place away from home - this is a good precaution in case of fires or other disasters. Make a photographic or video record of valuable objects, heirlooms and antiques. Your insurance company can provide assistance in making and keeping your inventory. Home and renters insurance is definitely well worth the investment if anything were ever to happen.

7) Be a good neighbor. If you notice anything suspicious in your neighborhood, call 911 immediately.

8) Mark your valuables with your driver's license number with an engraver. Marked items are harder for a burglar to dispose of and easier for police to recover.

9) Form a neighborhood watch group. City and county police departments can help you work with your neighbors to improve security and reduce risk of burglary.

10) Consider installing a burglar alarm system in your home, and always set your alarm upon leaving your home or going to bed. Also, always lock your windows and doors when leaving your home going to bed. You may also want to consider installing extra window locks and replacing screen glass doors with more secure doors.
Also, always keep your
garage door closed and locked when you are home or away. It is extremely important to call the police to report a crime or any other suspicious activity when it occurs. You have to be the eyes of your neighborhood and remember, you can always remain a pair of anonymous eyes!

Police are constantly working with tips and data to catch burglars, so your information is important in keeping burglars from doing more damage to homes and families.
Renters and homeowners may not be able to avoid a given burglary, but they can try to be as prepared as possible in case that day comes.

The Bulldog Bar wants to educate all of you renters and homeowners to help you avoid becoming a burglary statistic.
The Bulldog Bar home security products have been engineered to thwart "kick-in burglaries" and to secure your doors.

Our (patent-pending) door security bars are so secure that use of the actual key will still not allow entry to be compromised.

Break Myths, Not Doors: Our 4 Busted Home Burglary Myths!

It's time to throw these darn burglars off by addressing the 4 most common home burglary myths.

In America, a home burglary takes place approximately every 15 seconds, and in roughly 8-12 minutes a burglar can take much of what you and your family have worked so hard to accumulate over decades of hard work.

It makes sense that homeowners and renters place a high priority on securing away valuables and sentimental items in order to keep them from being stolen. It’s difficult for anyone to lose their sense of security and safety, especially in their own home, but with our help you can at least avoid getting all your valuables stolen from your home.

We care for your family and safety, so we have created our list of  4 Busted Home Burglary Myths:

(1)  Keeping lights turned on while you’re away will make burglars think someone is home.

It does not. Many times it actually helps burglars steal more items more quickly. Burglars often scope out houses by looking through windows and doorways for valuables out in plain site. If your lights are on and in plain view through windows and doors, it may actually aid a possible robbery. The trick is to turn on different lights each time you leave, or even better, have a systematic timer for your internal lighting, keeping your house lit and appearing active.

(2)  I don’t have to turn my alarm system on; I’m only leaving for fifteen minutes.

Many times experienced robbers will observe neighborhoods they are interested in burglarizing. These burglars look for patterns in behavior. If they notice that you leave each Wednesday evening for 25 minutes (to pick up your child at the local soccer field) they see a window of opportunity for possibly robbing you blind. All a burglar needs is 8-12 minutes to take most of your valuables. They will break in swiftly, go right to the common areas for hidden valuables and take all they can grab in 10 minutes. It is always best that renters and homeowners lock all doors and windows and set all alarms on home security systems every time they leave the home. It can help prevent the crime from ever happening.

(3) A guard dog will keep burglars from bothering our home.

First of all, your dog more than likely should not be “seriously” called a guard dog. Most dogs do little to keep experienced burglars away. If you have a big dog, great, but that doesn’t mean your dog will be aggressive enough to scare a burglar away. If you have to justify your purchase of a dog by your dog’s ability to fight off burglars, then get a dog that will literally eat an intruding burglar alive. You could also get a dog that will make so much loud or "yappy" noise that your neighbors will naturally be alarmed of something going on in or around your home. Otherwise, don’t think your dog or “pet” will do anything to keep burglars out… unless you own a skunk or a lion!

(3)  Home burglaries are rare...It won’t happen to me.

Home burglaries are commonplace, but suburb renters and homeowners are much more likely to be burglarized than urban dwellers. If you are willing to forfeit your family’s sense of security and lose everything that you have accumulated in all your hard work over the years simply because you are unwilling to take a couple minutes every day to make sure you are aware of you surroundings and that your home and family are secure, then be our guest. But, we know you care for your family and their safety, so keep your place locked up and as secure as you can keep it.

(4)  Security system signs and decals will keep burglars from attempting entry.

This is not true. Branded security system signs and decals can keep inexperienced burglars from attempting on occasion, but for the more experienced, intelligent burglars it can actually clarify for them what home security system to be prepared to dismantle once they enter the house. It is much smarter to buy generic security system signs and decals for your yard and house. At least with this, the burglars will have to be prepared for every security system on the market, not knowing which one specifically they will be faced with upon entering your home.

But, to be honest… the best deterrent to a home break-in is simple: keep those burglars from entering your home with The Bulldog Bar door security device.

Do you already have a home security system? If so, it likely consists of an alarm, cameras and a monitoring service. We have those too, and they’re great for alerting the police and showing them a video of the burglary in process. It might even make good evidence in court IF the intruders are caught. The problem, however, is that those systems focus on surveillance and detection; our priority is prevention.

The Bulldog Bar is a door security device that will enhance your overall home security system by placing an emphasis on actually securing your door.

Oh Hi, Oh! The Top 10 Cities for U.S. Burglaries (4 of which are in Ohio!)

Think residential break-ins could never occur in your "neck of the woods?"

Join the club of many (or even too many) Americans in the suburbs, who think home burglaries could never happen on their side of town!

Several homeowners unfortunately share this type of mindset when it comes to prowlers looking to break down their front doors:

- "We always keep our doors locked, so we are always safe."

- "Our neighborhood is secluded/gated, so we never have any crime where we live."

- "We live in the suburbs, and burglaries are only a result of living in inner-city neighborhoods."

Wrong, wrong, wrong! According to the FBI & the National Burglar and Fire Association, residences in the suburbs are actually 1.5 times more likely to be burglarized than homes located in urban areas.

Of those habitats which are broken into by "domestic invaders," 34% of those incidents took place by a burglar (or burglars) entering through the front door.

This is the main reason The Bulldog Bar squad created our newest home security product-- to keep trespassers OFF of your stomping grounds!

If you haven't seen our newest product yet, here's a brief summary:
We don’t set up security cameras or alarms which may (or may not) scare off crooks. Eyes Wide Open: 5 Things Burglars Look for When Targeting a Home

Springtime is here. Summertime is just around the corner. What does that mean for the common American household?... It’s vacation time!

Most Americans need at least one week away from work per year for relaxation and vacation outside of the home... and many Americans actually take off an entire month or even multiple months to head out to the beach or a lake house for the summer.

The summer months, especially July and August, are known to many as travel times. These two months, however, make up the period of time throughout the year when the most house burglaries are reported.

At The Bulldog Bar we know you need to get away, so we created a short list to help your house look more “unattractive” to burglars.

With that being said, here are 5 Things Burglars Look for WhenTargeting a Home:”

1) Easy, quick access.
Keep your trees and shrubs near windows and doors trimmed low. Burglars look to hide behind objects while they attempt break in, so a good lighting system to shine on your house and entry points is a great investment. Also, you want your house to have some visibility from the road and/or your neighbor’s house, if possible. You can always ask friends and neighbors to keep an eye on your place when you are away, so they can contact the police if they notice any suspicious activity at your residence.

2) Homes which appear unoccupied.
Many people have several daily routines in life...and because of our tendencies to be "creatures of habit," it's imperative to also make it a habit to lock up your doors and windows every time, even if you leave your Home Sweet Home for only 20 minutes. Experienced burglars plan accordingly, in order to catch you with our guard down. If you do have a set schedule, an extremely “yappy” dog is also a great deterrent. In addition, having lighting systems which are set to random times on the interior of the house can be a great investment that may help prevent a criminal invasion.

3) Visible valuables from windows & doors.
Make sure your electronics or any valuables are not in plain sight, visible from doors or windows. Prowlers are known for typically sneaking around a property before "pouncing," by looking into windows for items in clear sight which would be an easy "snatch and run" project. Also, be mindful of random people who knock on your door asking for directions, a glass of water or for random work. Some thieves have even been known to disguise themselves in order to scope out a home and possibly unlock a window or door for future entry.

4) Lack of security signs or decals.
We know it may sound silly but security signs, stickers and decals could actually keep burglars from an attempt at forcing their way into your habitat. For sophisticated burglars, however, displaying a specific company security sign often reveals to them how to dismantle the alarm. If you do have an alarm system, make sure you set the alarm when you leave every time. Burglars can steal a lot of your valuables in just 10-15 minutes, and they could even do it while you are on your regular Thursday night 30-minute stroll or trip to the grocery store.

5) Announcing vacations on social media.
For the sake of protecting your humble abode, The Bulldog Bar Squad suggests you DO NOT announce your vacations on your social media accounts like Facebook, Twitter, Instgram, etc. But if you just have to post that "amazing picture of the sunset over the ocean at Panama City Beach,” then at least have the smarts to ask a friend or family member to house-sit for you while you are away. You would be surprised how easy it is to track down an address these days, simply with a name from a social media network!

Being a victim of home burglary is difficult for anyone, especially if you have children who live in your house. It can affect your sense of security indefinitely. One mishap could change your family forever, and that’s why we care about what we do!

Here at The Bulldog Bar , our mission is to keep families from being traumatized by home burglaries. As a matter of fact, we focus on creating even more amazing products so crooks will never target the territory where you and your loved ones reside.

Ultimately we want families safe and secure, which is why we create great products like The Bulldog Bar .

Gimme a Break... But NOT a Break-In! The Top 5 Items Burglars Steal From Homes

Did you know...?
It only takes approximately 10-15 minutes for a burglar to break into your house and steal an entire van full of valuables, leaving you and your family with no sense of security, even in your own home.

Burglars today will reportedly steal just about anything they can turn over quickly for money or other valuables. Since this is the case, burglars will usually steal items which have value, are portable and are, of course, in high demand (meaning they can be sold quickly and for a decent amount of money per pop).
Think the possessions in your house may not be the apple of a criminal's eye? You may want to think again...

Here is The Bulldog Bar 's list of The Top 5 Items Burglars Steal from Houses in 2013:

(1) Cash and Coins. A robber would tell you, if you ever had the chance to speak with one, that “cash is king!” So with that being said, don’t leave your bundles of "green paper" out in the open. Make sure you have a place to keep it hidden just in case, God forbid, your house is broken into.

(2) Purses and Wallets. Often times purses and wallets contain the following contents: cash, undeposited checks, check books, coins, jewelry, debit cards, credit cards and personal identification materials that could possibly be used for identity theft. For maximum safety, keep your purse/wallets out of "plain sight," so they can't be coveted by those who are considering breaking into your residence.

(3) Electronics. Who doesn’t want a portable device for cheap? Most people do, which is one of the biggest reasons why these gadgets rank at the top of the Household Stolen Items list. Electronics which commonly stolen from home burglaries include:

-- flat screen TVs
-- laptops
-- iPads & iPods
-- Smart Phones of any kind
-- XBox consoles & games
-- DVD players & discs
-- sound systems & speakers
-- kitchen devices and
-- (last but not least,) power tools.
While there is really no way to keep ALL these items hidden from "plain sight," the best way to keep techy-toys from being stolen is to simply keep burglars from entering your humble abode.

Luckily for all of you reading this blog post, The Bulldog Bar Squad just happens to be in the business of burglary prevention for your residence.

(4) Jewelry.
Jewelry is as close to cash as it gets in the eyes of thieves. Your precious stones & shiny accessories can, however, be hidden from "plain sight" or locked away to help keep it from being found by home invaders. At The Bulldog Bar we strongly encourage you to have a safe somewhere inside your home to store your valuables and cash.

(5) Guns.
Beware-- Guns are in very high demand right now, and are currently being sold for top dollar. Here’s a little tip to better hang onto your collection of ammunition: Keep your guns hidden in creative spots that you can access at the drop of a hat, but will be difficult for weapon bandits to find upon entering your home.

The common denominator among these Top 5 Stolen Household Items is this: House Hunters (but we don't mean in the "real estate" sense) are definitely in the business of getting in and out of your domicile as quickly as possible. If this mysterious "snatcher" can’t find the desired items quickly, they will usually move onto the next task (aka your next door neighbor's digs) at hand.

Moral of the story? Hide & seek (as long as you know where you're hiding things and how to seek them) can be a great game even for adults to play at home. That's because trickery, on your end, can go a long way when it comes to preventing your valuables from being pilfered.

At The Bulldog Bar we create home security products known for state-of-the-art-security, chic style and simple installation. It's also affordable, so you won't be wasting money every month on a noisy security system (which works only during the times when you remember to activate it, by the way).

We truly believe the most effective way to keep burglars from breaking into your house is to have secure door entry points, which is another one of the amazing features of this device.

Isn't it time to implement a NEW & powerful way to avoid those unfortunate (as well as illegal!) entries into your comfort zone?

Check out The Bulldog Bar’s powerful features on our web site TODAY and call us with any questions (or for bulk orders)! (706) 478-7227.

Here's to givin' you an extreme break.... from break-ins!
